Hi, I’m Kerianne!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Francisco, California. I am a queer mixed-race 3rd generation Asian-American. I received my masters degree (MSc) in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Family Instituteat Northwestern University, and my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. I grew up in Southern California before moving abroad for my undergrad.
From living in a multitude of different cultural environments, I have seen how conscious and unconscious values, beliefs, and behaviors can greatly impact the perception and resolution of problems. I have been able to view the importance of acknowledging intersectional identities and how it can shape how one can understand themselves, others, and their relationships.
Some forms of my self-care include going on walks around the park, taking photos of local architecture, and folding cranes.
Therapeutic Approach
I approach the therapeutic space as conversational and collaborative. We discuss what has been impacting you and talk together about how to navigate what challenges you might experience. I use guiding and socratic questioning to help us better understand what is going on, the different factors influencing the issue, and what we can do to navigate them.
I am interested, but am not limited to working with those who experience challenges with: anxiety, identity development, chronic illness, integrating cultural differences, attachment/relational issues, neurodivergence, and consensual non-monogamy. I often work with people from LGBTQ+, international, neurodivergent, and POC communities utilizing an integrative systemic therapeutic framework. I use an intersectional approach to understand how the various systems we exist in may impact one’s mental health, well-being, and understanding of themselves. I aim to incorporate techniques and methods from several evidence-based practices to best fit you and your strengths.
My therapeutic approach is oriented to help grow one’s understanding in self to help foster a more positive relationship with yourself and others. I strive to continually orient my practice from a place of social justice, cultural humility and free of judgement. I often engage in longer-term explorative therapy which can offer flexibility towards the more acute and chronic issues that might arise throughout time.
If you don’t see the issue you’re experiencing on my website, I still welcome you to reach out to schedule a time to talk so that we can determine a goodness of fit together. I’m happy to have conversations about the therapeutic process, regardless of whether you decide to work with me or someone else.
